History of Chinese Medicine

Chinese herbs have served as the foundation for “traditional Chinese Medicine” for over 5,000 years. The fundamental idea of living in harmony with nature and the environment forms the basis for the use of Chinese herbs as well as the traditional Chinese approach to health. Knowledge of the healing power of Chinese herbs and herbal formulas has been passed down from generation to generation, and are still used in many healing formulas today.

The isolation of China throughout history plays a role in the general lack of understanding about Chinese herbs throughout the world. However, Chinese herbs have gradually been spreading into western countries in the past decades and these herbs are now experiencing a rapid increase in usage and popularity.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is very different from the practices of Western medicine. Western medicine is based on a scientific approach, adversely Chinese medicine is based on promoting a healthy balance in order to improve overall well being within an individual. Chinese herbal formulas include hundreds of popular organic ingredients that work in harmony to produce the desired effects in a person’s body. Each organic ingredient typically has unique characteristics that are reinforced and harmonized in comprehensive ancient Chinese herbal formulas that have been passed down through history.

Health-conscious consumers are now concerned about the concentration of synthetic chemicals in western diets, medicines and the overall environment. Chinese herbs are now being welcomed by progressive western consumers who are seeking natural, healthy and balanced health alternatives.

Staying Fit During the Holidays!

The holidays are a time to celebrate, we spent most of our day eating, drinking, indulging and then we end up feeling like balloons by the time it's all over. It's almost an unspoken rule that, with the holidays, comes unlimited eating and incomplete workouts.

You don't have to let every party become your own personal eating contest, and you don't have to let shopping take the place of your usual exercise routine. All it takes is flexibility, creativity and a new way of defining exercise.

Here are a few tips on staying active and healthy during the upcoming holiday season:
1. Keep going!
It is tempting to ditch your workouts as your days fill with wrapping and shopping, but it is critical to stay active during these times. Exercising will help you deal with the added stress and give you more energy for the long list of things you need to accomplish, as well as helping to manage your weight.

2. Exercise wherever you can!
You already know to take the stairs, park far away from you car and so on, but this holiday season if you are traveling be sure to put together a short circuit workout or check out the hotel gym. Even if it is small and most of the equipment is broken, be creative and find a way to get your heart rate spiked.

3. Make it a family affair!
What better way to get the family together than the holidays, so make use of this great opportunity to get your whole family involved in staying active. Go for a walk around the neighborhood to look at decorations, play touch football before a big meal, or have a snowball fight! Keeping everyone involved with provide for a healthier family and will motivate you to stay active.

However you handle the holidays, make this the year that you don’t gain extra weight. Make a conscious decision to do everything you can to stay active and eat healthy while not depriving yourself of all the fun. Like everything else in list, its all about moderation, moderation, moderation.

Happy Holidays from HelioPro!

7. To prevent disease: exercise has been proven to reduce the risk of just about every single health problem known to man, from stroke to heart disease to cancer and osteoporosis. Exercise is also a great defense against type 2 diabetes.

8. To sleep better: exercise boosts energy levels, but also wears you out. It makes you feel more vibrant during the day and sleep better at night.

9. To stay sharp mentally: exercise has been shown to improve memory and other cognitive functions, and stimulates the frontal cortex of the brain, which increases focus and attention to detail.

10.  To boost confidence: being fit, feeling healthy and having energy are all building blocks to having great confidence. There is no better confidence booster than sticking with a regular exercise program.

11. Get more “you” time:  after a stressful busy day that time in the gym or bike ride can really help you chill out. Going for a peaceful bike ride or going to yoga, staying active is a good way to let your mind unwind, solve problems and enjoy just being in the moment.

12. Stay young: for all the reasons above and in particular reduction of stress you will stay and feel younger with regular exercise. Enjoying a disease-free, sickness free life allows you more time to enjoy life.

13. To relieve back pain: many people think that when you have back pain, the best thing to do is not exercise. However, many back pain problems are due to weakness and inflexibility. Exercise can help strengthen the muscles that support you back and ease pain and aches.

There are 1,440 minutes in every day. Schedule 30 of them for physical activity!

Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy. People who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight as well as delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems!

Adults age 25 and over sustained an estimated 2.3 million sports and recreational injuries annually from 1997 through 1999. Recreational sports, including tennis, golf, bowling, and hiking account for 370,000 injuries per year.

Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week. Examples include walking briskly, mowing the lawn, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling. Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.

The knee is the most commonly injured joint. Each year, more that 5.5 million people visit orthopedic surgeons for knee problems. [National Institute of Health] The most common sports injuries are: Sprains and strains, Knee Injuries, Swollen muscles, Achilles tendon injuries, Fractures and Dislocations. [National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases]

At HelioPro we understand how detrimental injuries and set backs can be to a workout routine. We are striving to create products that not only sustain your muscles and joints for a workout, but help prepare and recover those body parts if you do sustain an injury while being active.
